Breast Augmentation / Enlargement Operation Details
PRE-OPERATIVE
Before Your Breast Augmentation - Breast Implants Surgery
- Breast Implants- types - Silicone or Saline filled, Round or Teardrop shaped Implant, Low, Medium, High and Extra High profile breast implant is available for the optimum natural cosmetic result following your Breast Augmentation - Implants surgery.
- Size - Implants size and shape will depend on cup size desired as well as existing breast tissue, drooping and chest girth which will be discussed with your surgeon at the time of consultation.
- Smoking - Essential to stop at least 3 weeks before Breast Augmentation - Implants surgery and until wounds are fully healed or at least 2 weeks after.
- Drugs - Avoid aspirin/ibuprofen type analgesics for 3 weeks before and after your Breast Augmentation - Implants surgery.
OPERATION
Your Breast Augmentation - Breast Enlargement- Implants- Reshaping Surgery
- Scars - Under breast, in natural fold or under arm in crease to give the best cosmetic result following your Breast Augmentation - Breast Implants Surgery.
- Position - Breast Implants are invariably placed deep to breast tissue only, but may be placed under pectoral muscle in certain circumstances - especially where the soft tissue cover is thin and the Implants may be visible.
- Sutures - Buried, dissolving are used during your Breast Augmentation - Implant ssurgery.
- Drains - Are used to remove any blood or fluid from around the Breast Implants and removed when significant drainage stops,and before discharge from hospital.
- Dressings - Water proof dressing and bra for 2 weeks after your Breast Augmentation - Breast Implants surgery. You are able to shower daily as soon as you go home!
POST-OPERATIVE
After Your Breast Augmentation - Breast Implants surgery
- Following your Breast Augmentation - Breast Implants surgery you are required to wear a Non-under-wired support bra, worn day and night for 3 weeks, and then during the day for 3 weeks. (We would like you to purchase x 2 Berlie Shock absorber; style - B102. The sizes of these bras will be discussed with you at consultation, and further advice will be given to you by one of our nurses when you book your Augmentation Implants Surgery).
- With Breast Augmentation - Implants placement in the sub-muscular pocket - under muscle - an IBS Band - will be worn above your bra,or on top of a tight t-shirt to ensure implant position. This is to be worn continuously for 2 weeks after your Breast Augmentation - Breast Implants surgery.
- Exercise - Avoid vigorous exercise for 6 weeks following your Breast Augmentation surgery. No arm lifting for 5 days.
- Showering - Showering ONLY permitted following discharge from Hospital for first 2 weeks after your Breast Augmentation Implants surgery.
- Care of scars - Apply Micropore tape (1 inch) along the scar for 3 months after Breast Augmentation Implants surgery, to prevent stretching and accelerate scar softening. Vit. E creams may be used after this period.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
After your Breast Augmentation - Breast Implants Surgery
- Pain - Moderate discomfort are expected following your Breast Augmentation - Implants surgery.
- Bruising - Common, may last for 2 -3 weeks after Breast Augmentation - implants surgery. Avoid Aspirin/Ibuprofen.
- Wound - Occasionally, mild infection. Rarely, serious infection requiring antibiotics and possible removal of the Breast implants (Risk less than 0.5 %). Rarely, haematoma (blood collection - Risk less than 1%) after Breast Augmentation, that may require drainage.
- Sensation - Some diminished sensation is expected around the scar following your Breast Augmentation implants surgery. May affect the nipple. Return to normal may take up to 3 months following your Breast Augmentation - Implants Surgery.
- Temperature - Breast will always be slightly cooler than body after Breast Augmentation - Implants surgery.
- Firmness - Initially breasts are swollen and firm. Uncommonly the firmness persists or recurs some months post-operatively - Capsular Contracture. This may alter the softness or shape of the implant,or cause discomfort. (Risk of capsular contracture less than 3 %).
- Rupture - Very rare with the modern Breast Implants used in Breast Augmentation.
- Rippling - May occur especially in very slim patient after 3 - 6 months following Breast Augmentation - Breast Implants surgery.
