Brow Lift Surgery

Drooping of the forehead or eyebrows with deep lines on the forehead can be a sign of aging and cause concern for many patients. At LBPS, our London brow Lift Surgery will correct the drooping of eyebrows. Botulinum toxin treatment to relax the muscles of the forehead and eyebrow is recommended 2 weeks prior to surgery for a more effective healing. Dermal Filler or Fat injections may also be recommended to achieve the best results.

Before Your Brow Lift Surgery

Assessment
Important to clearly state the areas of concern, your aims / desires.
Bleeding
Any history of abnormal bleeding or easy bruising is important.
Smoking
Essential to stop at least 3 weeks before surgery and until wounds are fully healed or at least 3 weeks after.
Drugs
Avoid aspirin/ibuprofen type analgesics for 2 weeks pre-op. These may increase bleeding and bruising.

Anaesthetic
General anaesthetic, occasionally local with sedation – twilight.
Scars
Inside hairline 3 or 4 depending on your individual needs.
Sutures
Dissolving usually take 2 weeks.
Dressings
Soft support bandage for first 24hrs.

Usually overnight or as a day case.

After Your Brow Lift Surgery

Dressings
None required.
Shower
Can wash hair gently at home.
Sleeping
Use 2 – 3 pillows (use a dark towel for first few nights) for 2 weeks post–op. Avoid bending over.
Exercise
Avoid vigorous exercise for 6 weeks. No contact sports for 6 weeks.
Pain killers
Avoid aspirin / ibuprofen type analgesics for 2 weeks post-op as these may increase risk of bleeding and bruising

Potential Problems / Risks of Brow Lift Surgery

Pain
Mild pain expected, Paracetamol usually sufficient. Some tenderness over the Endotine Brow devices is expected which settles within 2 – 4 weeks. Avoid aspirin/ibuprofen type analgesia which may increase bruising.
Bleeding
Minor oozing for first 2 -4 days can occur. Marked bleeding requiring re-admission is rare.
Bruising
Common around eyes, may last for 2 weeks.
Numbness
Common in scalp. Sensation usually returns to normal but may take 6 months.
Muscle Weakness
Uncommon in forehead as a result of bruising of the nerve to the muscles. Expected to recover fully in 6 to 8 weeks.
Skin healing
Rarely delayed healing of scalp wounds.
Infection
Rare but may need appropriate antibiotics.
Asymmetry
Uncommon in forehead frequently as a results of swelling and corrects with normal healing.
Scaring
Hypertrophic or keloid scars are uncommon following Brow Lift. Specific treatments may be necessary if these do occur.

  • What are the risks of Brow Lift Surgery?
    Common to all surgical procedures there are always risks associated with surgery. However, complications are uncommon. The most frequent is bruising following surgery and may take 2 weeks to resolve, while major bleeding is rare. Infection is infrequent (less than 0.5%) and will require a course of appropriate antibiotics. Hypertrophic or keloid scarring in the scalp is also rare but will require specific treatments to reduce the scarring. Reduced sensation over the scalp is expected and commonly returns within 3 – 6 months. Weakness of the forehead muscle (frontalis) is uncommon and usually temporary with recovery expected in 6 – 8 weeks.
  • Does a Brow Lift Surgery require a general anaesthetic or hospitalisation?
    Brow Lift Surgery is performed under General Anaesthetic either as a day case or may require a 1 night stay in hospital. This will depend on your needs and will be advised by your Surgeon.
  • How long is the procedure?
    This Cosmetic Surgery procedure normally takes less than 30 – 45 minutes to perform.
  • How long is the recovery time?
    Mild pain/discomfort is expected for 3 – 5 days. Patients can go back to their normal daily activities after 1 week, but avoid strenuous exercise/activity for 6 weeks including any contact sports.
  • How long do the results last?
    The results of Cosmetic Brow Lift Surgery will last from 5 – 7 years depending on your individual anatomy and aging.
  • Am I the ideal patient for a Brow Lift?
    The ideal patient for a Brow Lift has drooping of the forehead and eyebrows which is not corrected by effective Botulinum toxin injections. Patients should have normal hairline and forehead height not exceeding approximately 7cm. Receding hairline or high forehead may benefit from Hairline Lowering Foreheadplasty with the advancement of the hairline to a normal position in combination with Brow Lift Surgery.
  • What reassurance do I have with the Brow Lift?
