American gossip junkies will be more familiar with Heidi Montag than people in the UK. More famous for her 10 plastic surgery procedures than anything else, she has caused a stir recently by talking of having her “back scooped”.

“I think I might be the first one to try it out, It kind of carves your back out a little more,” she told American media outlets.

Chris Inglefield, surgeon at London Bridge Plastic Surgery, said: “What Montag calls “back scooping” is probably liposuction or smart lipo on the fatty areas of her back. Smart lipo, the minimally invasive liposuction technique, uses lasers to “zap” fat. It reduces fatty cells to an oily substance which can be easily absorbed and expelled naturally by the patient’s body, leaving the treated area slimmer, more defined and pleasing to the eye.”
