Fat Grafting

Fat Grafting At A Glance
By restoring fat, autologous fat transfer (also known as AFT or lipofilling) can enhance the appearance of an area of the body and provide a more youthful look. Loss of fat in the skin is a major contributor to the typical features of the aging face, breast, buttocks, and hands.

The autologous fat transfer technique can be combined with many other rejuvenation operations or treatments. These also include facial procedures such as Skin Peels, LASER rejuvenation, muscle relaxing injections, Browlifts, and Facelifts in order to achieve Total Facial Rejuvenation (TFR), Hand Rejuvenation, or restoration.

Autologous Fat Transfer (AFT) can be used in Breast Reconstruction, Breast Surgery Revision operations, and to correct deformities following liposuction, injuries, or operations. The type of operation required to achieve the best result for you will depend on your goals and involved areas and will be discussed at the time of your Consultation. Remember AFT will not change you or solve any life crises but should boost your self-confidence and enjoyment of life.

Fat Transfer FAQ’s
  • How is the treatment performed?
An initial consultation with Mr. Christopher Inglefield will determine the goals of treatment and make note of any associated abnormalities or asymmetry and plan the optimum treatment to achieve the ideal result in each patient. Treatment can be carried out either, in the outpatient setting and takes 30 – 40 minutes or in hospital as a daycase. A local anaesthetic injection into the site to be Fat Grafted and the area(s) where fat will be harvested, is used to ensure that the treatment is as comfortable as possible. Large areas of Autologous Fat Transfer AFT, Fat Grafting such as the Breasts, Buttocks or Male Chest are treated under general anaesthetic as a day-case. Autologous Fat Transfer, AFT can be enhanced by using your our Platelets from your blood in the form of Platelet Rich Plasma PRP, to enhance fat cell healing and survival. This is performed at the same time as Autologous Fat Grafting, AFT.
  • Will the treatment be painful / cause bruising?
Minimal discomfort is expected during the treatment and no bruising should occur with the careful techniques used. Any mild bruising will usually resolve after 1 week. The treated area(s) may feel tender – moderate discomfort for the first 3 – 5 days. Mild discomfort is expected for 2 weeks.

  • What is the benefit of Autologous Fat Transfer (AFT/Fat Grafting)?

Autologous Fat Transfer AFT uses your own fat cells (autologous fat) to enhance the facial, Breast or body features. Lipofilling can improve the appearance of facial lines especially cheek lines, forehead lines and around the mouth to achieve a more youthful look. Fat grafting is performed to correct hollowed eyes and cheeks and dark circles around the eyes. Fat Grafting, AFT, is used to reshape areas where fat has been lost either as a result of injury or surgery to restore a normal appearance and is especially useful for Breast Reconstruction or Breast revision, Buttock Enhancement, Male Chest Shaping, and Hand Rejuvenation.

  • Can Autologous Fat Transfer (AFT/Fat Grafting) be used to correct deformities following breast surgery?

Autologous Fat Transfer AFT, is the treatment of choice to correct deformities following lumpectomy especially if you have undergone Radiotherapy. AFT can be used to provide a relatively simple restoration of your breast after mastectomy, avoiding implants or complex reconstructive procedures. For women who have breast implants, AFT is especially useful to correct deformities, treat asymmetry or implant visibility and achieve a more natural and soft breast. Following radiotherapy to the breast, some women will develop hard, painful, or damaged skin which can be significantly improved by the use of Autologous Fat Transfer AFT to the area.

  • How long will the fat grafting results last?

Fat grafted into the face, breast, body or hands, provides a long-lasting or permanent improvement. Complex problems, such as post mastectomy or lumpectomy defects may require 3 or 4 treatments to achieve the desired results. Autologous Fat Transfer AFT, can be enhanced by using Platelets from your blood in the form of Platelet Rich Plasma PRP, to enhance fat cell healing and survival. This is performed at the same time as Autologous Fat Transfer.
