Mini Facelift Surgery

As we age several things happen to our face. The skin loses elasticity and becomes lax, fat decreases and becomes displaced by gravity producing the typical jowls, flat cheek, and lower eye bags.

Muscles also lose their size and strength and with loss of bone especially around the upper and lower jaws, the face takes on the typical features of aging. The skin loses collagen and hyaluronic acid, (Restylane Vital Light) with sun damage and pollution (smoking), pigmentation (age spots), fine blood vessels, and wrinkles appear.

The Mini Face Lift Cosmetic Surgery, Mini Rhytidectomy Surgery will help reposition sagging skin to achieve a natural subtle youthful appearance. The optimum procedure for you will depend on your goals and specific anatomy.

Mini Facelift FAQ’s
  • What is Mini Facelift Surgery?
The Mini Face Lift is a Plastic Surgery procedure designed to restore the youthful appearance of the face by lifting the soft tissues of the face and fixing these in a suitable position until natural healing occurs to permanently secure the soft tissues in the desired position.
  • What are the benefits of Mini Face Lift Surgery?
Mini Facelift Surgery aims to correct the signs of aging and gravity, improving the appearance of the lower face and jowls with minimal risk and downtime. The goal is to look fresh, more youthful without changing you – natural rejuvenation! Patients who do not have excess skin due to laxity, commonly do not require a Mini Facelift, many of these patients will benefit from Mid-Face Lifting or Silhouette Face Lift or noninvasive face rejuvenation. The procedure which is best suited to your goals will be determined at your consultation. Your result can restore self-confidence and boost self-esteem.
  • Am I the ideal patient for Mini Face Lift Surgery?
If you are concerned about the aging changes of your face and would like to achieve a fresher more youthful look, then Mini Face Lift surgery may be suitable for you. The Mini Facelift is suitable for patients with moderate skin laxity with some jowls. If you have significant skin laxity with cheek sagging, you will require a full Face Lift procedure. The Mini Face Lift procedure is also suitable for patients who have had a previous Face Lift and desire a refreshing procedure. You should be realistic as to what can be achieved by the Face Lift surgery and understand the risks and side effects of this surgery.
  • Does Mini Face Lift Surgery require a general anaesthetic or hospitalisation?
The advantage of Mini Face Lift surgery is that this can be performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure or day case.
  • How long is the procedure?
Mini Face Lift Surgery normally takes approximately 1 -2 hours to perform depending on the complexity of the surgery.
  • What about the scars following Mini Face Surgery?
The incisions are placed in the natural skin crease in front of the ears, in the groove behind the ears, and within the hairline and are therefore hidden. These incisions heal well in 7 to 10 days. The amount or extent of the incisions will depend on the degree of skin laxity and the complexity of surgery required to achieve the optimum results.
  • Will a special garment be required after Mini Face Lift Surgery?
In the majority of Mini Face Lift surgery, a facial support garment is fitted at the end of surgery to help control swelling and reduce movement post-operatively. This should be worn day and night for the first week.
  • Can Mini Face Lift Surgery be performed at the same time as other procedures?
Yes, Mini Face Lift surgery is commonly performed together with other face surgery such as, Blepharoplasty (upper and/or lower eyelid surgery), Neck Lift, Brow Lift, Chin Augmentation or Reduction, Neck Liposuction as well as Breast Surgery / Augmentation or Liposuction. What is appropriate and safe for you to combine will depend on your Medical Health, your goals, and the individual procedures.
  • What reassurance do I have with Mini Face Lift Surgery?
At LBPS, we understand that your decision to have Face surgery can be a daunting and anxious time for you. Our aim is to fully understand your concerns and desires, and assess your face accurately, before agreeing on a treatment plan which is in your best interest. If for any reason you are unsuitable for Mini Facelift surgery, you will be advised against this form of surgery. We will provide you with all the information you need and support before, during and after your surgery.
  • How long is the recovery time?
Mild pain/discomfort is expected for 3 – 5 days. Patients can go back to their normal daily activities after 1 week, but avoid strenuous exercise/activity for 6 weeks including any contact sports.
  • What about the results?
The results are first and foremost natural. The goals of Mini Face Lift surgery are to restore an aesthetically pleasing, rejuvenated facial shape that is in balance with your facial features – i.e. looks natural and does not appear abnormal. Remember it can take 6 weeks or more for the final result to be achieved.
  • What are the risks of Mini Face Lift Surgery?
Common to all surgical procedures there are always risks associated with surgery. However, complications are uncommon. Bruising can occur and may take 2 weeks to resolve, while major bleeding is rare. Infection is infrequent (less than 0.5%) and will require a course of appropriate antibiotics. Facial muscle weakness is rare, may affect the forehead or corner of the mouth, and is temporary lasting 6 weeks. Some altered sensation around the cheeks is expected and will commonly return to normal between 6 to 12 weeks after surgery.
  • How long do the results last?
The results of Mini Face Lifting surgery are expected to be stable for 3 – 5 years but note that as you age your face will change over the years. For example, the tissues around the cheek will continue to be affected by aging changes and gravity.
  • Is there an alternative to Mini Face Lift Surgery?
Yes, if Mini Face Lift surgery is not appropriate or not desired, rejuvenation of the lower face may be achieved using the Silhouette Face Lift, which may be combined with Non-Surgical Cheek Shaping using an injectable product such as Radiesse, Juvederm or Restylane can provide good improvement in the shape and symmetry of the face in a simple local anaesthetic treatment. This will require repeated treatments to maintain the desired result. Alternatively, Fat Grafting can be performed to enhance the cheeks with a long-lasting result using your tissue. Improvement in skin tone and elasticity can be achieved using the radiofrequency RF treatment – 3DEEP Skin tightening.
